2013-2014 JV Team
JV Basketball 2013-2014
The Junior Varsity basketball team finished the season with a record of 7-12. We played a very up-tempo style of play to try and take advantage of some of our athletes. We would press the majority of the game trying to force the opposing team to make some poor decisions. The team showed great intensity in the press and was a major factor in the success of this team.
The season began a little rough, beginning the season 1-4. Our first game of the season was our worst loss of the year losing 55-34 to Scarborough. Our first win coming against Massabesic 53-44. After those first 5 games, we went on a little winning streak winning 3 games in a row. Including a nice 46-40 win over Scarborough who beaten us badly early in the season. We were definitely showing some improvement.
The last half of the year featured a handful of games decided in the forth quarter with close losses to Bonny Eagle, Massabesic, Sanford, Deering, and Noble. The team could have easily been 12-7. Learning to play in close games and tough situations is what its all about in JV basketball. Lessons learned in those games will benefit them greatly at the next level.
The season concluded with at the JV tournament at Steve White Gym. We had a tough draw playing South Portland in the first round. South Portland came out on fire draining 3’s from all over. We fell behind 36-22 at halftime. The team responded typically the way they did throughout the year by fighting our way back into the game. We ended up cutting the lead to 3 points late in the 4th but South Portland made their free throws at the end to ice the game 59-49.
It was a very exciting and competitive season. It real joy to coach players who work very hard to do what is asked of them. I look forward to watching them continue to develop.
